The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls track team walked away with three bronze medals, and set a new school record to boot, at the Zeiter Relays at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Saturday.
Dylan Cashin, Melina Sarlo, Riley Miles and Ryleigh O’Donnell placed third in the League IV distance medley relay, which is 1,200-, 400-, 800- and 1,600-meters run consecutively. They finished in a new school record of 13:41.92. The previous record of 13:50.71 was set in 2020 by Penelope Greene, Bella Espinoza, Hanna Medler and Ava Engstrom.
Khalila Martin, Lyla Wilson, Kate McMillan and Briana Chavez placed third in 5:12.97 in the sprint medley relay, which is 400-, 200-, 200- and 800-meters run consecutively. Sarlo, Martin, Cashin and O’Donnell teamed up to place third in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:36.63.
Chavez and Miles formed a 4x4 “B” team with Alexa Gomez and Lyla Wilson, which placed eighth out of 16 teams in 5:04.93. Gomez, Casey Stumpf, Kate McMillan and Delani Beavers placed 13th out of 20 teams in the 4x200-meter relay in 2:17.09.
Stumpf (20 feet 6 ½ inches) joined with teammate Kristina Baratta (19 feet 6 ¾ inches) to finish the shot put relay in a total of 40 feet 1 ¼ inches. The pair also competed together in the triple jump and placed seventh with a combined measurement of 50 feet 11 ¼ inches. Stumpf leaped 27 feet 9 ¼ inches, while Barrata measured 23 feet 1 ½ inches.
“I think the girls had fun and it’s the first time some of them have done a relay at all this season,” East Hampton head coach Yani Cuesta said. “Now we have to focus on the League Championships. We’ll see what our small, inexperienced team can do.”
Both East Hampton boys and girls will compete in the League IV Championships this weekend. The girls will compete first on Saturday, then the boys on Sunday. Both meets are expected to begin at 2 p.m.
