East Hampton Town Police officers Chelsea Tierney and Barry Johnson were sworn in as sergeants and John Claflin as lieutenant at Thursday night’s East Hampton Town Board meeting. All three are graduates of East Hampton High School, who have pursued different paths that have lead them to criminal justice, according to Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo, who called them “three of the finest men and women in the police Department.”Sgt. Tierney has been with the department since 2008 and is the first female supervisor in the department. Sgt. Johnson is a grandson of Tuskeegee Airman Lee Hayes and has been with the department for 17 years with numerous commendations. Lt. Claflin, whose father, John B. Claflin, was a lieutenant in the department and retired in 2000, is a 14-year veteran of the department. He and Sgt. Johnson are also active members of the Springs Fire Department.
