My garden is going WILD! Please come and enjoy my wildflowers and “wild” friends as Marisa Nelson, program director of the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, Suzanne Ruggles, The Barefoot Gardener, and yours truly discuss creating backyard wildlife habitats in beautiful garden settings. My native and natural wildlife garden is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a backyard wildlife habitat and is also classified by Monarch Watch as a monarch way station.

“Wild for Wildlife in the Garden!” takes place on Saturday, September 8, starting at 10 a.m., in my garden in East Quogue. For reservations and additional information, call 631-653-4771 or visit www.quoguewildliferefuge.org.

Lots of hugs and kisses, and extra-special birthday wishes are winging their way to my grandchildren: Julia, Luke and William. The energetic triplets will celebrate their ninth birthdays on Saturday, August 25. Time certainly has flown for this grandma! I hope that their special day is filled with triple the amount of sunshine and laughter.

Kudos to Elaine Siegmund who recently graduated from the University at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Good job!

Children of all ages are invited to the East Quogue United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 2, at 9 a.m., for the “Blessing of the Backpacks.” This special service will certainly get the kids’ new school year get off to a very good start.

Congratulations to the winners of the East Quogue Beautification Committee’s annual raffle. Karen Cotty was the grand prize winner of the $400 gift certificate to the Stone Creek Inn. Robert Kandell and his lovely wife, Mary Anne, will receive six months of bouquets from Roses and Rice. And Donnaree Rodriquez, Delores Golder and Jennifer Wertenbaker won $100 gift certificates for East Quogue Wines and Liquors, Village Prime Meats and Beachside Bagel Café, respectively.

Lisa Agoglia still has a few openings for 3- and 4-year-olds at her Hampton Bays Nursery School. For interested parents, an open house is scheduled for this Friday, August 24, from 10 a.m. until noon. The nursery school is located at 9 Terrace Drive in Hampton Bays. For more information, call Lisa at 631-728-5266.
