It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The Christmas tree on the East Quogue Village Green is brightly lit, courtesy of our East Quogue Beautification Committee, and beautiful wreaths adorn the lighted lamp posts on Main Street, thanks to our East Quogue Chamber of Commerce, Mark Hissey and Discovery Land Company. A great big shout-out also goes to Jim Frankenbach of Southampton Christmas Lights who, literally, on a moment’s notice, fit East Quogue into his very busy schedule to light up our hamlet’s Main Street. You are my hero, Jim!Speaking of heroes, don’t forget that our hometown heroes are selling Christmas trees, wreaths and roping at the East Quogue Firehouse. Please show your support for our dedicated volunteers who do so much for our community.
And while you are out and about on Main Street, please remember that from gift certificates to beautifully decorated gift baskets, from wonderful bottles of wine to flowers and jewelry, our Main Street has it all. Our shopkeepers are warm, helpful and friendly and there are no long lines.
On a serious note, when we’re caught up in the magic of Christmas, it can be hard to believe that there are families in need in our beautiful hamlet. But there are and that is why the East Quogue Adopt-a-Family program is so very important.
Checks, cash, gift certificates and gift cards may be dropped off at Roses and Rice on Main Street. Checks and requests for assistance may also be mailed to East Quogue Adopt-a-Family, P.O. Box 71, East Quogue, NY 11942.
Also, if you know of a family or senior citizen in our hamlet who could use a little Christmas cheer this holiday season, please contact Lois Holley at 631-653-4444. All information will be kept confidential.
As they do each year, the members of the Twin Forks Chapter of the Compassionate Friends, a national self-help support organization for families grieving the death of a child, will be holding their Worldwide Candle-Lighting Service in memory of all children taken too soon. The service will take place this Sunday, December 11, at 7 p.m., inside the East Quogue United Methodist Church on Montauk Highway. Doors open at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Marie Levine at MarieLevine2@verizon.net. Everyone is welcome.
Just a reminder: If you know of anyone who graduated from Our Lady of the Hamptons, Our Lady of Poland School or Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, please send their email address or their home address to sks@hamptons.com. You may also send this information by snail mail to Sister Kathy at 160 North Main Street, Southampton, NY 11968.
Finally, it is, sadly, time for me to wish you a fond farewell. For the past ten years, I have so enjoyed sharing in your accomplishments and achievements, your birthdays and anniversaries, but, it is time to move on. The Southampton Press will be sporting a brand new look in the new year and changes will be made to the community section. As with all changes, there is always a degree of melancholy and a degree of excitement. While the community columns will become a thing of the past, your accomplishments, photos and tips are still very important to my editors so please continue to send them in. The only real change will be that instead of emailing me, beginning on January 1, 2017, you will send your news to Kim Covell at kim@pressnewsgroup.com.
