I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend. My family will be joining me for the entire weekend, making me one very happy grandma!
Tickets are going fast for the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce’s End-of-Season Bash at the Hampton House (formerly Turtle Bay). The fun begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 12. There is always great food at our chamber events and, for your listening enjoyment, the fantastic Inner Roots will be performing. As usual, there will be lots of great prizes raffled off and this year’s grand prize is a 40-inch flat-screen television.
Tickets to the party are only $20 each. For more information, e-mail Kirsten at kirsten@sandytoeseastquogue.com.
Congratulations to two of East Quogue’s very talented anglers! Victoria Santos, 14, and Gabrielle Johnson, 6, were winners of the Snapper Derby held last week at the Tiana Bay Recreation Area on Dune Road. The event was sponsored by Hampton Watercraft and the Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Department. Way to go, girls!
Nick and Ellen Marsh celebrated their 53rd anniversary on Tuesday, August 25, and Ellen blew out the candles on a beautiful birthday cake on Saturday, August 15.
August has always been a special month for Nick and Ellen Marsh and last month was made even more so because of a special visitor. Their grandson, U.S. Marine Sergeant Michael Gragg, was home on leave after serving two tours of duty in Iraq. Michael, an armament expert and helicopter crew chief, is the son of Michelle Marsh, formerly of East Quogue. Michael left for Afghanistan on Monday, August 24, to serve his third tour of duty. I know that all of our thoughts and prayers are with him.
Very special birthday wishes, accompanied by lots of hugs and kisses, go out to my grandchildren, Julia, Luke and William. The exuberant triplets turned 6 on Tuesday, August 25!
There’s a “doubly” proud new grandmother in East Quogue! Ann O’Dea is absolutely ecstatic over her two beautiful grandsons, Konnor James and Kaden Tyler. The identical twin boys were born on July 7 and join big brother, Kolby, 5, and big sister Kaylee, 3. The happy parents are Jen and Shawn Oudeans. Congratulations to all!
The next meeting of the East Quogue Citizens Advisory Committee will take place on Wednesday, September 9, at 7 p.m., in the library of the East Quogue Elementary School. Everyone is invited to the group’s meetings and membership is open to all East Quogue residents.
Check out the fantastic end-of-summer sale at Sandy Toes Children’s Boutique. New clothes for fall and winter are coming in daily and, I don’t know if we’re quite ready for this, but the Halloween costumes are in!
Don’t forget to send in your tickets for the East Quogue Historical Society’s annual raffle. First prize is a magnificent quilt that was made by Carol Floege and valued at $1,500. Second prize is a beautiful framed photograph of Alcotts Pond by Lola Grieco. There is also a lovely framed cross-stitch by Carol Floege and a $50 gift certificate for dinner at the fantastic New Moon Café.
The prizes will be raffled off at the society’s annual meeting that will be held at the East Quogue United Methodist Church on Friday, September 25. Mark the date.
What a great way to start your Labor Day weekend festivities! Join your friends and neighbors at the Quogue Village Dock for a free sunset concert featuring the acoustic music of the Ashley Gramins Band. The event is sponsored by The Quogue Association and takes place at the end of Quogue Neck Lane at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 4.
This nature nut is absolutely “nutty” about the new Nature Nut program being offered at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge! Your little ones will be as busy as squirrels gathering nuts as they take nature walks, enjoy hands-on activities, and observe the refuge’s animals.
The first class in the three-session program will be held on Tuesday, September 15, from 10 until 10:45 a.m. The other sessions will be offered at the same time on September 22 and 29. The program is for children ages 2 and 3, and kids must be accompanied by a parent. The fee is $35 for refuge members and $55 for non-members. For additional information, call 653-4771.
Get your running shoes on! The Flying Point 10K for Autism Awareness will be held at Flying Point Beach in Water Mill on Sunday, September 20. To register, visit flyingpointrun.com.
The black-and-white images and narratives of landscapes and city life captured by photographer and author Peter Moore will be on exhibit at the Quogue Library this month. An artist’s reception for Mr. Moore will be held at the library on Saturday, September 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call 653-4224.
The show features a large selection of photographs from Peter’s entire body of work: simulated prints taken with a pinpoint camera; large-format black-and-white photographs; highly manipulated digital prints; new prints from his Guggenheim series, which Peter has turned into a book that will be sold at the museum in the fall; and voyeuristic street scenes and snapshots of city living taken from the window of his New York apartment that are a part of his latest project, “Room with a View.” Check it out.
