East Quogue Elementary School fifth graders did not have in-person instruction on Friday, October 23. In a message to families, Superintendent Robert Long announced that a staff member had tested positive for COVID-19 and the district’s two fifth-grade classes would work remotely, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Suffolk County Department of Health.
The classes have been notified and all other students were told to report to school on their regular schedule.
“The decision is being made out of an abundance of caution,” Mr. Long said. “We are closely monitoring the situation.”
This is the first reported case in the school community. According to the Suffolk County case tracker, there have been 72 cases in the East Quogue hamlet since March.
