Southampton native Edna (née Postowski) Laurita died on December 11 in Venice, Florida.
Born at Southampton Hospital on November 5, 1918, during the influenza epidemic, she graduated from Southampton High School in 1934 where she was a star player on the girls basketball team. She was also a competitive New York State amateur bowler and an avid golfer.
She raised her family in Copiague while working as a manager at Abraham & Strauss in Babylon, but after her retirement in 1976 returned to Southampton, where she became active in the ladies auxiliary of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela MacFarlane of West Islip and Christine Doctor of Glenwood Landing; three sisters, Elizabeth Tureski of Southampton, Helen Luckert of Connecticut, and Lee Erwood of Florida; and a grandson, Jason Doctor.
Her husband of 55 years, Frank Laurita, predeceased her.
