Edward Michael Bradley of Quogue, and formerly of New York City, died on Long Island on August 19. He was 83.

Known as “Michael,” he was born on April 13, 1939, in New York City, the son of the late Otis Treat Bradley and Marian Alling Bradley. He spent most of his life in New York City, Westhampton Beach and Quogue.

Bradley attended the Buckley School in New York, Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Yale University in 1961. After college, he received his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School. Returning to New York City, he initially worked at Davis, Polk & Wardwell, where his father had been a partner, but left to become a partner at Brown & Wood, where he spent most of his professional career.

He was married to the late Judith Bradley, whom he married in 1962, at the Church of the Heavenly Rest on the Upper East Side of New York. They raised four children together in New York City.

Bradley loved the eastern shore of Long Island, where he had spent summers as a child with his parents and siblings in Westhampton Beach. He had a particular fondness for the beach and loved nothing more than swimming in the ocean, as frequently and often as possible — with friends, his children and grandchildren, according to his family.

For much of his life, he was avid tennis player, golfer and paddle tennis player. And as much as physical activity was an important part of his life, he also loved intellectual conversation and the ability to inform his audience with history and facts, usually at dinner, or cocktail hour. He had a particular larger-than-life character about him, his family said.

His four children and nine grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy, according to his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Treat Bradley; his three sons, Michael Thompson Bradley (and wife, Melissa), Thomas Alcott Bradley (and wife, Ashley) and Samuel Allen Bradley (and wife, Natasha); and his nine grandchildren, Olivia and Sam Cannell, Fiona and Sawyer Bradley, Annabel, Louisa and Oliver Bradley and Victoria and Sam Bradley; and his sister, Marian Bradley.
