Edward Szlegier Of Southampton Dies August 21

Edward R. Szlegier

Edward R. Szlegier of Southampton died on August 21 at Southampton Hospital. He was 70.

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Sophie and Edward S. Szlegier.

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1962, he moved to New York City, where he worked in retailing, most notably as merchandising manager of Montaldo’s (a women’s speciality shop located in the South and Midwest). He and his partner, Ron Vidakovich, were summer residents of Southampton beginning in 1976 and became full-time residents in 1995. Mr. Szlegier was employed at Hildreth’s until his retirement in 2004. He and Mr. Vidakovich were avid travelers, having visited many places in Europe, Asia, the Far East, South America, North Africa and the United States.

He is survived by his partner of 46 years, Ron Vidakovich; and a brother, Richard Szlegier of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Visiting hours and a parish prayer service were held on Friday, August 24, at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass was celebrated by the Reverend Paul 
Dahm on August 25 at the Basilica of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, followed by a private cremation.

Memorial donations to the Rogers Memorial Library, 91 Coopers Farm Road, Southampton, NY 11968, would be appreciated.
