Elgin Percival Pruder of Southampton died on December 10 at Southampton Hospital after a long illness. He was 82, and also had homes in Palm Beach, Florida, and Wiarton, Ontario, Canada.
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on August 21, 1927, he was a graduate of the University of Michigan, class of 1957. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II and then for 20 years in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Reserves, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander.
He had a long and distinguished national and international career as an architect/civil engineer at General Motors Corporation and Ford Motor Company. He served for several years with the Environmental Protection Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Family members said this week that he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elinor Dee Pruder; two daughters, Kristen Venadam and Kimberly Dixon, a son, Mark Pruder, a brother, Gary Pruder, and a sister, Eileen Dehnke, all of Michigan; seven grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation was on December 13 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, where military honors and a funeral service were also held, with the Reverend Peter Larsen officiating. Interment will be at the family cemetery in Colpoy’s Bay, Ontario, Canada.
