Former Southampton resident Elizabeth Brodie Sabine of North Carolina died on June 6 at the Pines at Davidson senior community in North Carolina. She was 94.

Born May 3, 1914, in White Plains to James and Rita Brodie of Southampton, “Betty,” as she was known to all her friends, was a skilled and avid bridge player who also loved reading and playing golf. A longtime member of Southampton Golf Club and a member of the Daughters of the British Empire, she was also a member of, and held various officer positions with, the Nassau Women’s Club.

According to the family, Ms. Sabine cherished her many friendships.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Baranovich and her husband Richard of West Babylon; two sons and their wives, John Charles Sabine Jr. and Gloria of California and James H. Sabine and Judy of North Carolina; a sister, Agnes Taylor of Mississippi; five grandchildren, Kristen, Cheryl, Eric, Diane and Sandra; eight great-grandchildren, plus two great-grandchildren expected this summer. Her husband, John C. Sabine of Southampton, predeceased her.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville, North Carolina. A local memorial service will be held on July 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint John’s Church in Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 100 South Main Street, Southampton, NY 11968 or Serenity House, 110 Centre Church Road, Mooresville, NC 28117 would be appreciated by the family.
