Elizabeth Van Dercook Brent

Elizabeth Van Dercook Brent of East Quogue died at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown on Monday, February 23, after a valiant battle with breast cancer. She was 54.

Ms. Brent worked as an account executive at Niche Media in Southampton and was a longtime resident of East Quogue.

According to loved ones, she brought joy to people with her generous nature, optimistic outlook and love of life.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; two daughters, Alyson and Rebecca; a son, Henry; a sister, Christine Galustian; three brothers, Charles, James and John Van Dercook; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, February 26, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Dockers Waterside Restaurant and Marina in East Quogue. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065 would be appreciated by the family.

A simple fact about the SALT deductions is being obscured with Nick Lakota’s statements in the news. If the 2017 tax rules expire, residents will once again be able to deduct 100 percent of their state and local taxes.
