The Eastport South Manor Board of Education has amended the district’s smoking policy to include a ban on electronic cigarettes.
The policy, which aligns with federal and state laws, now says that e-cigarettes are among the list of things that students and faculty are prohibited from using within 100 feet of any entrance, exit or outdoor school property. Smoking cigarettes or e-cigarettes on buses or vehicles that transport students to school is not permitted, either.
Nearby residences and residential properties that are closer to the buildings are exempt from this rule.
The board unanimously adopted the policy change at its November 19 meeting.
