Estelle Munro of Hampton Bays died on January 21 at Winthrop-University Hospital, with family and friends by her side. She was 75.
Ms. Munro graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1960 and spent her senior year at Dartmouth College in the med-tech program, where she met her future husband, Dr. Howard G. Munro, who escorted her to the medical library. They were married on June 3, 1962, and she worked in the field of medical research at Arthur D. Little Inc. and then at Sloan-Kettering for a short time, before settling down to raise three children.
After raising her children, Ms. Munro had time to travel all over the world and visit places such as New Zealand, Great Britain, Egypt, China and Antarctica, among others. When she wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed playing the oboe in the Monday Night Band and reading and relaxing at the beach. She was a shareholder at the Surf Club in Quogue.
Ms. Munro is survived by three children, Howard J. Munro, Michelle Munro and Bonnie Gaffney and husband John, all of Hampton Bays; a brother, William Isherwood and wife Dana of Washington; a brother-in-law, Dr. Alan Munro and wife Marty of Massachusetts, a cousin, Alex Isherwood and wife Patti of Delaware; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Sierra Gaffney of Hampton Bays. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 2000.
A memorial service was held on January 26 at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
