Ethel G. Buccola
Ethel G. Buccola of East Quogue, formerly of Valley Stream, died in Woodbridge, Virginia, on December 31. She was 94.
Ms. Buccola grew up in Valley Stream and later moved to East Quogue. She was a prominent member of the Old Towne Garden Club and the Long Island Daylily Society. She grew and cared for her beautiful garden that was often showcased by garden clubs and even had her own daylily named after her—the “Ethel Buccola.” She was also a music teacher and instructed many students with a firm but loving hand. She was honored several times throughout her lifetime for her musical talent, survivors said.
In 2009, Harry Grevert, Ms. Buccola’s brother, moved her into his home in Woodbridge, Virginia, so that his son, Tracy Grevert and his family could care for both of them. Auntie, as she was affectionately known, lived there with her extended family until her death.
She is survived by a large extended family located throughout the country but had no children of her own. She loved and cared for all kinds of animals and considered them her “babies.”
She was predeceased by her husband Domenic Buccola in 2005, and her brother Harry Grevert in 2010.
Ms. Buccola was interred on Thursday, January 5, at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead.
