Eugenia (Jean) Kalish of Bridgehampton died on November 25 at her daughter’s home in Holbrook. She was 102.

Ms. Kalish was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Stanley and Felicia Glinka on September 10, 1918. She graduated Southampton High School and worked in the Southampton Town Hall until her marriage in 1941 to Chester Kalish, a lifelong Bridgehampton resident and potato farmer.

Ms. Kalish devoted herself to family. A favorite family tradition was to always gather for dinner together and “share the day,” talking over successes and problems and plans and whatever was on your mind, according to her family. She was always active in school events to support her daughters and served on the Bridgehampton School Board. She was also active in church affairs at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church.

One of her most memorable occasions was her 100th birthday celebration with extended family at Fellingham’s in Southampton.

Ms. Kalish worked at GLF/Agway in Bridgehampton for many years as office manager. When she retired, she and her husband spent their winters in Vero Beach, Florida, and enjoyed golf together.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith Bennett of Holbrook and Felicia Kalish of Estero, Florida, and two sons-in-law, Clifford Bennett and Thomas Cleveland of Sands Point, Idaho as well as her sister-in-law, Kathleen Glinka and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Chet, her husband of 54 years, her third daughter, Cheryl Cleveland, and her three brothers Frank, Henry and Stanley Glinka.

Because of COVID restrictions, a private visitation will be held at Brockett’s Funeral Home on Saturday, December 5, followed by Mass celebrated by Father Manuel Zuzarte at The Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church at 11 a.m. in Bridgehampton and interment at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Long Island Hospital Hospice, 105 West Main Street, Patchogue, New York 11772. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Hospice that provided in-home care and comfort to Ms. Kalish and her family.
