In November, the Town of Southampton will elect a town justice, a position which usually receives little attention but plays a critical role in assuring fair and effective government.
Four town justices provide leadership for processing all criminal, civil, traffic and parking summonses issued by the Town of Southampton. Given the wide range of issues that come before Southampton’s court, this position requires someone with extensive experience, sound judgment and a high level of professional ethics.
John Ortiz brings a wealth of unique experience that reflects his commitment to public service, making him an ideal candidate for this position.
Mr. Ortiz has over 36 years as a prosecutor, civil litigator and trial attorney. His experience as a prosecutor includes a decade serving in the New York County district attorney’s office. He also served for more than a decade as a deputy district attorney in California. In these positions, he was responsible for a wide range of investigations, including organized crime, political corruption, labor racketeering and various industrywide corruption cases. He has tried over 90 cases to completion. His career also included civil litigation of general liability and labor law cases.
In addition to his extensive legal background, Mr. Ortiz is committed to community service. For example, Mr. Ortiz served on the Mamaroneck Town Planning Board for 12 years, including two as its chairman. This provided him with a comprehensive understanding of New York town operations and issues.
It is rare that someone with such an extensive public service record and legal experience is willing to run for office in our town.
Too often these days, our political system reflects a lack of integrity and questionable behaviors. John Ortiz’s record reflects a commitment to justice, fairness and respect for others. He will fairly administer the law.
John Ortiz deserves your support.
