Facts Checked

Southampton Village Mayor Bill Manger’s recent Southampton Press letter [“False and Malicious,” Letters, October 3] is an egregious attempt to downplay the legitimate concerns of Southampton Village employees and the residents. His personal attack on me shows how far he will go to silence critics. Instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue, he chose to attack me.

The facts in my “Taylor Law” letter [Letters, September 26] were already in the public domain. My sources were clearly referenced. The mayor should direct his “false and malicious” venom to the sources, not to me.

The Southampton Press initially declined to print my “Taylor Law” letter because they needed more time to reference the facts. Once they checked my sources, they printed the letter.

The fact of village labor relations are demonstrated in the union’s “Show Some Respect” gathering in front of Village Hall. The facts of the violation of the “Taylor Law” (Public Employees Employment Act), improper practice charges and silencing employees from speaking at Village Board meetings are expressed on the Civil Service Employees Association website.

The Southampton Village voters should decide whether the mayor has a propensity to choose alternate facts.
