John Leonard’s rebuttal [“No Bullying,” Letters, February 13] contains numerous falsehoods and further demonstrates his retaliatory and unhinged behavior.
The National Labor Relations Board, after hearing both sides, found that two employees of the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center were fired in retaliation for an email they sent to the board of directors. This email brought up, among other things, issues that related to John Leonard. The timing of the firings, right after the email was sent, debunks his preposterous claim that they were carried out for any other reason. Additionally, these firings were done without the consent or knowledge of the rest of the board.
There was no “audit” wherein I was found to have improperly collected $2,000 after my retirement. I retired as executive director but stayed on the payroll part time for eight weeks to train the new executive director and to help post the many donations from the appeal we just sent out. In fact, I worked for minimum wage my entire salaried time at the center, after working for 10 years with no pay.
The permits were not in the center’s name but were in my name. I had them transferred to my home address so I could still legally take care of wildlife at home. The new executive director had plenty of time to apply for his own.
John Leonard should be ashamed of himself. I only met Gene Valle [“Not Bullied,” Letters, February 13] one or two times when he volunteered at the center. He only knows what John Leonard has told him, and he should be embarrassed as well.
