The Suffolk County Water Authority, which last week urged its customers to refrain from lawn watering and other high-use activities due to drought conditions and strains on the water supply system, has eased off on those requests. The Suffolk County Water Authority has announced that it would receive its first payment as part of a nationwide class-action lawsuit against the 3M Company, a manufacturer of PFAS, which are often referred to as “forever chemicals,” because they do not break down over time. The chemicals have polluted Long Island’s sole-source aquifer, and SCWA will receive part of a $10.5 billion settlement involving thousands of water providers across the country.
