Officials are investigating the cause of a fire on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation Tuesday night that destroyed a double-wide trailer that was used as the offices for the tribe’s gaming authority, officials have confirmed.The fire was called in to the Southampton Fire Department at 12:46 a.m., and by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the trailer, located across the street from the Shinnecock Cultural Center, was fully engulfed in flames. The trailer was completely destroyed, according to 2nd Assistant Chief Chris Brenner of the Southampton Fire Department.Fire officials were on the scene for approximately three hours, wrapping up at 3:45 a.m. No one was in the trailer at the time the blaze started, and no injuries were reported. Southampton Fire Chief Dennis Roy was in charge at the scene.The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Southampton Town fire marshal’s office. According to Chief Fire Marshal Cheryl Kraft, investigators were still on the scene as of Wednesday morning.Also on Wednesday morning, New York State Troopers said they were waiting for a report from the Town Fire Marshals office to determine if an investigation into the fire is necessary.Officials from the tribe were not available for comment.Along with the Southampton Fire Department, the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, and New York State Police responded to the scene.
