A friend just bought my attention to the letter by Ed Surgan, who states that I want to raise your (who is your?) taxes [“It’s Politics,” Letters, May 22]. I said nothing of the sort. I suggested that we need a sound decision-making process, not political posturing. I said, simply, you can’t cut revenue (by cutting taxes) and increase spending (both parties, on all sorts of things), and balance your budget. My final line was: Glad these people are not managing my money. I object to his misreading and mischaracterization of my thoughts.
I will note that The New York Times estimates that most people will save about $750 per year under the proposed reconciliation bill. The upper class will save as much as $82,000. This inequality and short-focused management is destroying us.
Jenga has become my favorite way to visualize this. Keep pulling blocks out of the middle and passing them to the top. Fairly quickly, the entire thing collapses.

I was surprised to see Nick LaLota so full of praise for a hard-won fight over the SALT increase [“LaLota Votes for Spending Compromise That Raises SALT Cap, but Only for Five Years,” 27east.com, July 3]. His “hard no” was...
The problem with stupid people is that they’re too stupid to know how stupid they are. Example: Donald Trump. Benjamin Netanyahu saw a useful fool in Trump from a mile away when he first engaged with Trump, and he knew...

The amazing part of The Express News Group is that it continues to carry water for the Democratic Party despite what it’s done to America and the American people. The present-day Democratic Party is left, socialist-leaning and antisemitic — and...
From John Green’s novel “Looking for Alaska”: “People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used.” Still here....
Upon first reading Michael Wright’s article in the July 3 Southampton Press [“Shinnecock Nation to Southampton: Take Down Our Seal — We’re Done Talking,” 27east.com, July 2], what first came to our attention was his use of the word “confrontational”...
Congratulations to our local radio hosts Gary Sapiane and Bill Evans of radio station WLNG. They have just been inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame. I only can say that it’s about time they were recognized....
When my children (12, 9) ask about politics, our discussion often begins with a question: What do you value? Kindness is big for them. Also, trust. Fairness. Music (in general), Dylan and Swift (in particular). Lately, “being heard” is trending...
