Florence Schucht Of Southampton Dies February 15

Florence Schucht of Southampton died on February 15, 2018, at Shore Acres Nursing Facility in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was 85.

Mrs. Schucht was born in New York City on March 24, 1932, to Polish immigrants Alexander and Helen Teresiak. She was raised in New Jersey and on Long Island.

During her young adult career, she was a flight attendant for Republic Airlines and flew many routes throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Later, she married John “Jack” Schucht in in East Islip. She had two children, Michael and Arthur.

Mrs. Schucht and family moved to Southamptonin 1968. She began work with the Sacred Hearts Church working with its school, performing administrative duties. Later, she worked for a small period of time with the Suffolk County Department of Social Services and then finally as administrative assistant to the Suffolk County Sheriff in Riverhead. During this time, she also attained an associate’s degree in business from Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead.

She retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 1991, and she and her husband moved to St. Petersburg, so she could be closer to her father.

Predeceased by her husband in 1992, shortly thereafter she purchased a residence back in Southampton, as she always considered Southampton her true home.

She became very active in the communities of Florida and New York, doing volunteer work for various organizations including the Southampton Elks Club, Southampton Hospital Thrift Store, the Mahaffey Theatre and the City of St. Petersburg.

She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner at Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Our Lady of Poland Church, both of Southampton, and the Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Arthur; daughters-in-law, Candace and Ingrid; and four grandchildren, Sara, Christina, Elizabeth and Alison.

There was a memorial service held on February 18 at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. A memorial service at Our Lady of Poland Church in Southampton will be held at a later date. Visit the family’s personalized online guestbook at andersonmcqueen.com.
