A Florida man was arrested on Sunday after police said they discovered him sleeping in a stolen vehicle in Flanders.
Officers responded to reports of a white pickup truck parked along the side of Quogue-Riverhead Road and found Arthur Edward Black, 28, of Kissimmee, Florida, asleep in the driver’s seat. After an investigation, police said, it was determined that the vehicle Mr. Black was found in had been reported stolen in the Bronx.
He was arrested by Southampton Town Police at 1:15 p.m. and charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
Mr. Black was taken to Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays for questioning, and a further investigation revealed he had an active warrant for his arrest for domestic battery out of Orange County, Florida.
Police said Mr. Black was processed and held at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside in lieu of $500 bail for the stolen vehicle charge.
