Posted on the “East Quogue Community Connection” Facebook page was a statement that the East Quogue Civic Association was contacted by Tom Horton, lead engineer from Southampton Town, and that the East Quogue Civic Association was on board with Vector Control of Suffolk County spraying the pesticide Anvil to address the mosquito problem in East Quogue. Spraying was to take place this July 28, south of Montauk Highway, but most notably in the reserve that borders on Weesuck Creek and Shinnecock Bay.
For the record, no one contacted the East Quogue Civic Association — nor is the board of the Civic Association in favor of spraying pesticides under any circumstances.
Please keep in mind that the pesticide Anvil used to kill mosquitoes also kills other insects useful and necessary to our survival on this planet: bees. Moreover, should Anvil find its way into our waters, this pesticide kills fish, too.
Weesuck Creek feeds into Shinnecock Bay, which is a most valuable but highly compromised body of water. The East Quogue Civic Association supports all efforts to save and restore this body of water but not to add to its further denigration.

I have to admit I was flattered that Ken Dorph, the Mideast expert, responded to my Letter to the Editor [“Build Bridges,” Letters, November 30]. He literally spent three paragraphs qualifying that he is an expert, despite the fact that...

Today’s headlines covering the anti-Israel, pro-Hamas demonstrations across the country in cities and on many a campus are eerily reminiscent of my youth in the late 1960s. Anti-Vietnam sentiment divided us who were being conscripted to prosecute a war we...
