Former Bridgehampton resident Bessie M. Thomas dies at 99

Former Bridgehampton resident Bessie Mae Thomas died at her home in Clinton, Maryland, on February 5. She was 99.

Born in 1910 to Willie and Anna Ford, she married Robert Thomas and settled in Bridgehampton, where the couple became members of the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton. Following her husband’s death in 1982, she moved to Clinton, Maryland, to be near her son.

In addition to her son, William Ford and his wife Irma of Maryland, she is survived by a sister, Alice Darden of Bridgehampton; a granddaughter, Patricia and her husband Bruce Gordon of Virginia; a grandson, Gary Ford of Washington D.C.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was on February 12 at the First Baptist Church in Bridgehampton. Interment followed at Southampton Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
