George Beavers III

George Beavers III, formerly a part-time resident of Bridgehampton, died in Upperville, Virginia, on May 19. He was 83.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Bronxville and Bellport, he was the son of Charles Gaylord Beavers and Anne Verplanck Beavers. He attended Northwood School and Salisbury School and went on to Brown University. Mr. Beavers served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the New York Yacht Club and a trustee of Salisbury School.

As a vice president of sales at Bowne and Company in Manhattan, Mr. Beavers commuted for many years from Darien, Connecticut. He semi-retired in Bridgehampton, where he opened a restaurant. After leaving the restaurant business, he found his way to Upperville, where he lived for the last 20 years. He enjoyed spending time on the ocean, sailing and riding motorcycles, his family said.

Mr. Beavers is survived by a son, George Beavers IV and wife Anna of California, and by two grandchildren, Charlotte and George. His wife Frances Isbell from Greenville, South Carolina, died in 1965. His subsequent marriage to Judith Sperry ended in divorce. He leaves his longtime companion of 25 years, Gay Estin of Upperville, and her two daughters, Hilary Hood of California and Alex Estin of New Hampshire.

Memorial donations may be made to Salisbury School, 251 Canaan Road, Salisbury, CT 06068.
