Frances Pierce
Former East End resident Frances Pierce, 91, died in Napa, California on March 10 after battling Alzheimer’s. Her daughter, Susan was at her side.
Ms. Pierce grew up in Hawthorne, New Jersey. After marrying Leonard Pierce, she and her husband shared a two-family house with her husband’s parents, then moved with their first three children to Midland Park in 1950, where they lived for more than 30 years.
Happy and outgoing, Ms. Pierce had many interests and talents including singing, painting, hooking rugs, sewing and gardening. She loved animals and there were always pets in her households. She followed in her mother’s footsteps as a wonderful cook.
Ms. Pierce loved the beaches and waters of Long Island, first vacationing in North Sea, then retiring to Water Mill and Jamesport, where she spent more than 20 years.
She moved in 2009 to an assisted living facility in Napa, until a hospitalization caused her to relocate to the Nazareth Rose Garden in February.
Ms. Pierce is survived by three children, David Pierce and wife Elizabeth of Pennsylvania, Susan FitzGibbon of Napa, and Linda Sacripanti and husband Steve of North White Plains; seven grandchildren, Michael and Jessica Pierce, Douglas and Heather FitzGibbon, Katie, Steven and John Sacripanti; and four great-grandchildren, Brad and Hayden Pierce, Jeffrey and Brendan FitzGibbon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in 1988 by her husband of 47 years, Leonard Walter Pierce; and a daughter, Marcia, in 1958.
Funeral services were private. A memorial service will be held later in the year.
