Catherine A. Vollmer
Former Southampton resident Catherine A. (née Case) Vollmer died on July 30 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. She was 84.
Born January 1, 1926, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of Agnes (née Gillinghan) and Chester Case. She graduated in 1943 from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, and received her Bachelor of Science in accounting from Hunter College in New York in 1947. She married John Vollmer on January 24, 1948, in the Bronx, and later received additional degrees in statistics and education in 1957.
Mrs. Vollmer worked as a teacher in the Deer Park School District from 1955 to 1979, when she retired. She lived in Southampton for 32 years before moving to Greencastle, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann E. Vollmer of Pennsylvania; a son, Eugene C. Vollmer of Virginia; and a sister, Dorothy Goodness of California. She was predeceased by her husband, John Vollmer, on June 26, 1997.
Visitation was held on August 3 at the Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home in Greencastle, where a prayer service was conducted by Father Dave Pichette. A funeral mass officiated by Father Dan Menniti was held on August 4 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Greencastle. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton.
