Catherine M. Casella of Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, formerly of Southampton, died on Wednesday, January 1, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was 78.
The daughter of Conrad and Mary Flannery Heinzerling, she was born December 20, 1935, in Merrick. She lived in Southampton for many years and was employed for many years by Grumman and owned Beach Plum Cottages.
Ms. Casella was a member of St. Bernard Church in Beach Lake and also attended St. Francis Xavier Church in Narrowsburg. She was a member of the St. Bernard Women’s Guild, Patriot Connects, the Red Hat Society, Honesdale Women’s Club, Hawley Garden Club and Narrowsburg Food Pantry.
Survivors said she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, avid mahjong player and loved to line dance. She was involved in many good causes, they said.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Salvatore J. Casella; six children, Carol Eaton and husband Marty of Alabama, Thomas Casella and wife Angela of New Jersey, Robert Casella of Southampton, Jeffrey Casella and wife Laret of Tennessee, Sally O’Neill and husband Edward of Delhi, and Daniel Casella of Tennessee. She is also survived by two brothers, Conrad Heinzerling of Florida and Henry Heinzerling of California; nine grandchildren, Tara, Shana, Sean, Steven, Colleen, Jason, Emilia, Fiona and Finn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral Mass will be said on January 18 at noon at St. Francis Xavier Church in Narrowsburg; Father William Scully, O.F.M., will officiate.
