Charles H.R. Bull
Charles H.R. Bull, an Acton, Massachusetts, resident for the past seven years, died on January 1 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 70.
Born in Southampton, he was the son of the late Earl and Katherine (Warde) Bull and brother of the late Richard Bull.
A 1960 graduate of Southampton High School, he was a piano pupil of Hildegard Wilson. He lived in New York City for a number of years and then moved to West Haven, Connecticut, where he was employed by Southern New England Telephone until his retirement. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Descendents of the Founders of Hartford and the Masons.
A gifted musician, Mr. Bull collected an extensive music library and especially enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Following his retirement, this passion led him to move with his wife to Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Susquehanna University with a degree in organ performance and sacred music. Mr. Bull greatly enjoyed his second career with a position at the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, and as guest organist at area churches in Pennsylvania and later in Massachusetts. A member of the American Guild of Organists, he was also a former member of St. Bartholomew’s Choir in New York City, the Susquehanna Valley Chorale and the Sounds of Stow.
Mr. Bull enjoyed gardening, golfing and travel. He loved his dogs and is fondly remembered for time spent with his family, teaching his grandson how to fish, playing games with his granddaughter, his annual egg hunt and his sweet tooth.
Mr. Bull is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol (Bachman) Bull; a daughter, Suzanne Rutstein and husband Charles of Massachusetts; a brother, John V.R. Bull and wife Susan of Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Jacob and Claire; and two nephews and a niece.
Interment was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
