Former Southampton resident Gladys A. White dies at 83

Former Southampton resident Gladys A. White of Monroe Township, Ohio, died on August 24. She was 83.

Born May 4, 1927, in Southampton, she was the daughter of Florence (née Way) and George Brown. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Leisure Days Nursing Home in North Sea 
until its closing and then 
worked as a cook/housekeeper for the Mosler family before 
retiring in 1984.

Family members described 
her as a devout Christian and loving wife and mother. A member of State Line United Methodist Church, she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a lifetime member and past president Dune Post 7009 of the Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary in Southampton and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Malcolm Rose White Post 0433, also in Southampton. In addition, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, word search puzzles, cooking, baking, and taking bus trips to Atlantic City.

She is survived by a daughter, Johanna and her husband Roger Curtis of Ohio; a stepdaughter, Cheri Sheen of Southampton; six sons, Harold Wagner of Ohio, Gerald and his wife Catherine Wagner of Port Jefferson, Charles Wagner of Virginia, Kenneth Wagner and his wife Tammy of Southampton, Marty Wagner of Maine, and Clifford Wagner of New Mexico; three stepsons, Shepard White of Southampton, Ralph White of Florida, and Tim White of Southampton; three sisters, Harriet Ross of Georgia, Ella Ambrose of Southampton, and Ann Miller of Hampton Bays; a brother, Jack Brown of Hampton Bays; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Wagner; a second husband, Ben White; a son, Richard Wagner; two grandsons, Dusty Wells and Robert Curtis; three sisters, Mary Shaminiski, Florence Brown, and Mabel Brown; and five brothers, Henry “Ike” Brown, Tom Brown, George Brown, Alfred Brown, and Charles Brown.

Visitation was on August 28 at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Conneaut, Ohio, where a funeral service was held on August 29, officiated by the Rev. David Blood, pastor of State Line United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, Ohio. A local memorial will be announced at a later date.
