Laura Bacon-Rieger
Laura Bacon-Rieger died in Charleston, South Carolina, on March 15 following a long illness. She was 57.
Born and raised in Southampton, she was the daughter of Cleveland Bacon, a direct descendant of Grover Cleveland and Jean Cross, and a descendant of Long Island baymen. She was a graduate of Southampton High School and her passion was interior design. Survivors said her love for her family was fierce and her loyalty to her friends was unequaled.
She is survived by her husband, Jan; her daughter, Jody; her son, Christopher; her stepson, Ian; three grandchildren, Tyler, Joshua and Cameron; a sister, Alexandra; and a brother, Brett.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Southampton. She will be buried in Orient, in a plot overlooking the farm fields where her ancestors lived, according to her wishes.
