Lois June King

Lois June King of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and formerly of Southampton, died on Thursday, June 14, in North Carolina.

Born June 24, 1925, in Jersey City, New Jersey to the William and Helen Warren, who predeceased her, Ms. King married Vincent King on August 23, 1947. They met at a homecoming dance for World War II servicemen and fell in love immediately, survivors said. They lived in Jersey City initially, then moved to Plainfield, New Jersey, and later moved to Southampton, where they raised their four children and resided for 45 years until their move to Pinehurst in 1997. Much more than a loving wife and mother, survivors said, Ms. King was a dynamic businesswoman often quoted in The New York Times. Known as a “legend” in Southampton real estate, Mr. King was a pioneer in breaking open the market with record high real estate values and many firsts in this achievement, survivors said. For more than two decades, Barclay & King Real Estate was the forerunner in real estate in the Southampton area.

Above all, survivors said, her greatest love was her family.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Vincent F. King; her four children, Jeffrey W. King of Pinehurst and three daughters, Patricia E. King of Pinehurst, Barbara Estupinan and husband Bernardo of New Jersey, Ellen Brown and husband Billy of Pinehurst; and four grandchildren, Jennifer King, Natalie King, Cristina Estupinan and Gabriela Estupinan. She was predeceased by her sister, Gloria DeRisi of New Jersey.

The family received visitors on Monday, June 18, at the Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst. A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, June 19, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst; the Reverend Edward Burch officiated. Interment followed at the St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Online condolences may be made at www.bolesfuneralhome.com.

All local stories matter. They matter to some portion of readers, and they certainly matter to the journalists sharing them. But there’s always an article that hits home a little more than others. Bill Sutton, who is the managing editor of The Express News Group, was never comfortable being in the pages of our newspapers. But he agreed, because his story is so important — and can help so many others — because he needs a donor kidney. He’s not alone: There are some 100,000 people in the United States alone who need life-saving organ donations. It’s testament to modern ... 4 Jun 2025 by Editorial Board

Nearby are The National, which dates to 1911, and Shinnecock Hills, founded in 1891, the celebrity courses that every golfer knows and dreams of playing.
