Margaret C. Cassano
Former Southampton resident Margaret C. (née Cann) Cassano of Port Charlotte, Florida, died on November 18 at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte surrounded by family and friends. Affectionately known as “Peggy,” she was 78.
Born August 4, 1932, in Jamaica, Queens, to Margaret and Harry Cann, she and her husband, Richard Cassano, raised their family on the old Bayberry property in Southampton.
Family recalled her as a social butterfly; she loved being involved and leading activities, whether it be organizing a dance, holiday events or just gathering friends for get-togethers. She was an avid card and domino player who also enjoyed an occasional game of bowling. But most of all, she loved to dance and enjoyed every moment she could of the Florida beaches. In addition, Ms. Cassano was a huge holiday enthusiast. Family said she touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to come in contact with her.
In Florida, she was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte. She spent countless hours devoting her time to church functions, she cooked and cleaned for those unable to do so, and spent numerous hours helping those living in hospice.
According to family, Ms. Cassano was a wonderful and loving human being and will be missed dearly by all who loved and knew her. She is survived by a son, Richard Cassano and his wife Sherry of Vermont; two daughters, Kimberly and her husband John Cause of Southampton, and Bonnie Cassano of Florida; six granddaughters, Shannon Gallagher and her husband George Ashley, Shilo and her husband U.S. Army Specialist Dale Newcomb,, Kristina Gallagher and her husband Jamie Chauvin, Kaitlyn Cassano and her husband Andrew Geppner, Adriana Cassano, and Morgan La Force; a grandson, Tyler La Force; two great-granddaughters, Jaycee Newcomb and Leah Chauvin; and two great-grandsons, Wyatt Newcomb and Tegan Ashley.
