A program for parents and guardians of children with disabilities is being offered by the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center, the next in its Thinking Forward Lecture Series.
During a teleconference on Wednesday, December15, moderator Dora Romero, the center’s new in-house social worker, will talk with Donna Febo, a parent of two children with special needs and a broker for families in obtaining special needs supports, and Christine Bryant, about eligibility through the Office for People with Development Disabilities and benefits available through social services programs.
The program will start at 7 p.m. The Zoom meeting ID is 837 7965 0552 and the password is children.
“As I spoke to other parents of Special Needs Kids, I found out the information related to signing up for and receiving OPWDD services was not readily available and many of the kids, even in my own children’s school district were not receiving these life-altering services,” noted Febo.
The forum will allow families to learn about OPWDD- NY State Office for People with Developmental disabilities, as well as how to connect with direct support staff, including community habilitation specialists, respite workers, job coaches, and job developers.
To join the meeting, RSVP to Dora@bhccrc.org or call 631-537-0616.
The program is sponsored by the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center, ACA NY, Advance Care Alliance, and the Witness Project.
