Frances Adele Hand was born on September 25, 1933 in a private home in Sag Harbor Village to William and Mary Adele Field. She attended Pierson High School and then worked at Bulova Watchcase Factory in Sag Harbor for seven years. After raising her children, Ms. Hand worked as a bus driver for the King and Thompson bus company for 15 years.
Ms. Hand died of natural causes at the Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Riverhead on March 18, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, who died on January 11, 2021; her sisters: Wilma Schaefer, Peggy Baronowski and her son Manuel J Cunha Jr.
Ms. Hand enjoyed fishing, clamming, crocheting, knitting and sewing. Her specialty was making cloth dolls, many of which she won ribbons for at doll shows in Washington D.C. and on Long Island, which she enjoyed attending with her daughters. Her dolls were also featured in several well known doll magazines. Ms. Hand also loved the local beaches and was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and horse racing. She never missed watching the Triple Crown and loved to visit her daughter, Cherryl, and vist the Saratoga Race Track with her. She is survived by her sisters, Alice Rozzi, Tekla James, Susan VanKovics and Adele O’Connell; her children Rhonda Cunha (David), Cherryl Cunha (Ronald), Sharon Adam (Terence), Lauren Schellinger (Stratton), Anthony Cunha; and stepsons Robert Hand Jr. (Amy) and Thomas Hand. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services for both Robert and Frances Hand will be announced at a later date. All of their children would like to thank everyone who helped our parents after they became ill. They would also like to thank the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Sag Harbor Volunteer Fire Department and in lieu of flowers would like memorial donations sent to those two organizations.
