Frances Press died on Monday, November 9, at her Southampton home with her family by her side. She was 88.
Born in Greenport on May 14, 1921, she was one of four children born to Louis and Jennie Levinson. She graduated from Greenport High School and went on to attend the New York School of Applied Design for Women in New York City.
In the fall of 1946, she married Benjamin Press. The couple lived in Southampton, where her husband was the proprietor of Ben’s Grocery Store and Tuckahoe Launderette. Survivors said this week that above all she wanted to be remembered as a good wife, mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Press is survived by two daughters, Paula Hoffman of Southampton and Louise Press of East Quogue; three grandsons, Evan Hoffman and Zachary and Seth Stevens; a granddaughter, Jennifer Hoffman; and a great-grandson, Anthony Hoffman.
In addition to her husband, Benjamin Press, she was predeceased by three brothers, Abbie, Harry and Milton Levinson.
A private prayer service was held on November 9 at her bedside. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
