Frank Belson Sr. of Flanders died on May 13 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care on Quiogue. He was 72.

Mr. Belson was born on September 23, 1948 in Southampton to Frank A. and Leona (Deegan) Belson. He attended Westhampton Beach High School.

He married his wife Jean in 1988 in East Quogue,’He was a foreman and mechanic for the Suffolk County Department of Public Works for many years.

His hobbies and interests included antique cars and volunteering for the Flanders Fire Department.

Mr. Belson was a commissioner and ex-chief of the Flanders Fire Department. He volunteered with the department for 42 years, first joining in 1978. In addition to being a chief and commissioner, her served many roles in the department. He had previously served witht he Westhampton Beach Fire Department from 1970 to 1978.

Mr. Belson was predeceased by his parents. In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his children, Joanne Goetz-Farran of Riverhead, Louisa Belson-Roach of Riverhead, Frank Belson Jr. of Flanders, Colleen Belson of Flanders, Rebecca Miller of Westhampton Beach and Chris Miller of Indiana; his siblings Patricia Webb, Ed Belson and Kenny Belson, all of Florida; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 19, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where firematic services will be held at 7 p.m. Family prayers will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
