Frank Marotta, a longtime resident of Hampton Bays, died at Stony Brook University Hospital on Friday, May 1. He was 73.
Born on October 19, 1941, Dr. Marotta graduated from Hampton Bays High School in 1959, Hartwick College in 1963, and the Georgetown School of Dentistry in 1967. After serving two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he returned to Hampton Bays to establish his dental practice on Good Ground Road.
Dr. Marotta was a member of the Lions Club and then the Hampton Bays Rotary, serving as president for two terms and recognized as a Paul Harris fellow. He also served on the board of the Riverhead School District.
Survivors said Dr. Marotta will be remembered by the things he enjoyed in life: his conversations with his patients, woodworking and handyman projects, kayaking in the Peconic Bay, golfing, traveling with his wife and friends, family gatherings, and acting as the unofficial maître d’ at the annual Rotary Spaghetti Dinner at Villa Paul.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Liz; three sons, Mark, Alex and Michael; six grandchildren, Maggie, Robbie, Clara, Megan, Anna and Eva; a sister, Eleanor (Termini) Fiore; many nieces and nephews, including Vicki Marotta-Swanson of Hampton Bays, Salli Figler, Jodi Hu, Carla Cove and Joseph Termini. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Rosalie and Sal Marotta; a brother, Joseph; and a nephew, Chris.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Burial was at Good Ground Cemetery.
