Frederick Austin Elliston, known as Fred by most and “Freddie” by his family, of Southampton, died peacefully on December 8 at the East End Hospice Kanas Center for Hospice Care. He was 74.

Elliston was born in Southampton to J. Frederick Elliston and Phyllis Austin on January 9, 1947. He went to Southampton High School and graduated in 1965, and immediately following he joined the U.S. Air Force.

After returning to the area he began his long career in the arts as a professional picture framer. He worked at Morris Studio in Southampton and then moved on to Hampton Photo Arts of Bridgehampton. Elliston was a longtime fan and listener of WLNG and enjoyed all things racing. He spent many Saturday evenings at the Riverhead Raceway surrounded by friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jeanette Elliston; his son Robert Elliston and wife Nikki and their five children; his daughter Sheila Baker, husband Jon, and their three children; and his daughter Brandi Mesner, husband Jason, and their three children; his two younger brothers Philip Elliston and David Elliston along with their spouses and children; as well as his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial celebration is being planned for late Spring 2022. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful team of caregivers at East End Hospice Kanas Center for Hospice Care.

Amanda Kempton, the 32-year-old Virginia resident who police said struck and killed Sara Burack in a hit-and-run accident in the early morning hours of Thursday morning, was arraigned on Saturday in Southampton Town Justice Court.
