A pair of upcoming events will honor the memory of former East Quogue School Superintendent Rob Long, who died of cancer on August 9.

On Thursday, March 2, from 6 to 9 p.m., the East Quogue School PTA will host “Raise a Glass for Rob” at Buckley’s Inn Between in Hampton Bays, to benefit the Robert J. Long Jr. Scholarship Fund.

Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. There will be passed hors d’oeuvres and a special drink offer from 6 to 7 p.m., as well as basket raffle prizes. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit eastquoguepta.net.

The community will have another chance to honor Long’s memory and support the scholarship fund by partaking in what was always one of his favorite activities — running — when the inaugural “Mr. Long ‘See You Out There’ 5K Run and Walk” kicks off on April 29, at 9 a.m., rain or shine, at the East Quogue School on Central Avenue.

The race will benefit the scholarship fund, and there will be a special dedication to Long held 30 minutes before the start of the race. T-shirts will be guaranteed for the first 100 registrants. Registration is $30 for those who sign up online before April 8. The price increases to $35 after that, and is $40 on the day of the race.
