Former Southampton resident Gary Herman of Brooklyn died on April 2 at Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn, of a heart attack. He was 52.
Born November 5, 1956, in East Patchogue, he was a graduate of Southampton High School. He worked as a painter, but surfing was his passion.
He is survived by his father, Edwin T. Herman; two sisters, Nancy and Susan Herman of Southampton; two nieces, Dana Alexander of South Carolina and Faye Hilbert of Hawaii; and three nephews, Seth Hilbert of Southampton, Ryland Hilbert of South Carolina and Wesley Schultheis of Ridge. He was predeceased by his mother, Carol Herman.
The family received visitors on April 6 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, where a funeral service was conducted by the Reverend Peter Larsen. Cremation followed. The family is planning a memorial service that will be announced in a future edition of The Press.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island, P.O. Box 2681, Amagansett, NY 11930 would be appreciated by the family.
