Gene Travis of Foxwood Village in Riverhead died on Saturday, July 11. He was 87.

Mr. Travis was born in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, on September 18, 1921.

Mr. Travis was a retired maintenance engineer for The Bath and Tennis, Dune Deck, Westhampton Motel, the Goldsteins and several other employers in Westhampton and Quogue. He was a member of the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance, Father Slomski Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Riverhead Loyal Order of Moose.

Survived by his wife, Ellie, Mr. Travis was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon.

A funeral memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 8, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Westhampton Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Immaculate Conception Outreach Program. P.O. Box 1227, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 would be appreciated by the family.

Hampton Bays Beautification held its 39th annual Garden Party and Famous Auction at Oakland’s Restaurant on June 7. It has come to my attention that there is an effort afoot to move our beloved college windmill off our campus, where it has resided for many decades [“New Push To Move Southampton’s Oldest Windmill From College Campus Back to Village,” 27east.com, June 11]. There are approximately 10,000 Southampton College alumni. We have contributed to the area since 1963.
