Genevieve Szczepankowski Of Water Mill Dies August 16

Genevieve Szczepankowski of Water Mill died on August 16. She was 99.

Born December 6, 1914, on Shelter Island to John and Helen Sherry, she moved to Water Mill with her family in 1915. She attended the Water Mill School and later Southampton High School. She married Paul Szczepankowski in 1937, and that same year, the couple purchased a farm and boarding house in Sagaponack. Later, her daughter, Mary Ellen Spellman, catered and operated the general store in Sagaponack, where Ms. Szczepankowski assisted with cooking and preparing her specialties. In 1996, she purchased her new home in Water Mill.

She is survived by three children, Janet Dodge and husband Richard, Barbara Khatib and husband Adnan, and Paul Szczepankowski. She was predeceased by two children, John Szczepankowski and Mary Ellen Spellman.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Richard, Gordon and Diane Dodge, Leila Khatib, Nader Khatib, Jonathan Spellman and Genevieve Spellman; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sherry Forman.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
