George A. Andrews Of Water Mill Dies November 11

Former Southampton Village Clerk George Allison Andrews died on November 11 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. He was 88 and was village clerk from 1981 to 1989.

Born in Chicago, on June 6, 1925, he served in the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, with his favorite destination being Paris. Survivors said he had an adventuresome spirit and a quick wit with a passion for painting. Earlier in his life, Mr. Andrews served as president of Blue Cross Blue Shield, leaving to settle into the place of his dreams, Water Mill. He had also lived in Missouri, North Carolina and Florida. It was in Florida that Mr. Andrews found the love of his life, Frances; the couple was inseparable. Ms. Andrews survives him and resides at the Cedar Lodge Nursing Home in Center Moriches.

Mr. Andrews is survived by a sister, Susan Galloway. He was predeceased by another sister, Judith Arnold, and by two brothers, John and Jerry. Also surviving him are two nephews, John Arnold and John Galloway; and five nieces, Joni Bratney, Cathy Baker, Paula Dondale, Cora Duncan and Kelley Arnold. Survivors said there are also countless people in the Water Mill area who would count the Andrewses as part of their families.

Visiting hours were on Wednesday, November 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, November 21, at 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Interment with military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
