George Emil Boziwick of Sag Harbor died on March 9 at his home. He was 100.

Mr. Boziwick’s 100th birthday in May 2020 was celebrated with a festive parade of vehicles and well-wishers past his house on Main Street and a proclamation in his honor issued by Sag Harbor Mayor Kathleen Mulcahy.

Mr. Boziwick was a member for 26 years of the Chelberg-Battle Post #388 of the American Legion, where he served as post finance officer and member of the Board of Directors for 13 years. An active parishioner at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, he was a long-time lector at the 8:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. He was a founding member in 1963 of the Noyac Golf Club and served two terms as its president. He played golf into his 98th year.

Mr. Boziwick was born in the village of Sag Harbor on May 12, 1920 to George J. Boziwick and Josephine Norsic, immigrants from Croatia. He spent his grammar school years at the Saint Andrew’s Roman Catholic school, also serving as an altar boy for the church. After graduating from Pierson High School in 1937, he worked at the Bulova Watchcase Factory in Sag Harbor. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1940, and upon completion of Naval Radio School training, he was assigned to serve at the Panama Canal. There, he was responsible for the installation and maintenance of aircraft radio equipment.

In August 1945, he married Jean Kuch of Bridgehampton. He was discharged from the Navy in October 1945, and enrolled in Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam on the GI Bill, earning a degree in electrical engineering in 1948.

Settling first in New Hyde Park, Mr. Boziwick began working for various defense engineering firms. In 1955, he was invited into the firm of R.P. Luce, & Co., Inc., technical representatives, by its founder, R. Phillip Luce. He became president of the firm, subsequently taking ownership of the company. R.P. Luce was later acquired by his son Richard Boziwick. Working from home, the elder Mr. Boziwick remained an active participant in the firm until a few weeks before his death.

In 1960, Mr. Boziwick and his wife Jean moved their family of four children to Great Neck, and spent summer weekends in Sag Harbor at the home of Mr. Boziwick’s mother Josephine. After her death in 1987, Mr. Boziwick renovated her historic house, and he and his wife Jean relocated there in 1990. Jean Boziwick passed away in 1995.

Mr. Boziwick is survived by his sons Bruce and his wife Margit Johnson of Selden; Richard and his wife Janet Magoolaghan Boziwick of Northport; George and his wife Stephanie Doba of Brooklyn, and his daughter Kathleen and her husband Ilya Oshman of Manhattan and Sag Harbor; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous Norsic and Kuch relatives and descendants on the East End and around the country.

Donations in memory of George Boziwick may be made to: American Legion Post #388, Chelberg & Battle Post #388, The American Legion, P.O. Box 541, Sag Harbor, NY 11963; or St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Attn: Father Peter Devaraj, St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 122 Division St., Sag Harbor, NY 11963.

All local stories matter. They matter to some portion of readers, and they certainly matter to the journalists sharing them. But there’s always an article that hits home a little more than others. Bill Sutton, who is the managing editor of The Express News Group, was never comfortable being in the pages of our newspapers. But he agreed, because his story is so important — and can help so many others — because he needs a donor kidney. He’s not alone: There are some 100,000 people in the United States alone who need life-saving organ donations. It’s testament to modern ... 4 Jun 2025 by Editorial Board

A Place To Play

Shinnecock Hills and Tuckahoe make up a mecca for golfers, with four world-class golf courses shoulder to shoulder: Shinnecock Hills, the National Golf Links of America, Sebonack and Southampton. Sebonack is the new kid on the block, opened in 2006 and designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, but it’s already developed an international reputation, hosted a Women’s U.S. Open and made the list of the nation’s 100 best courses. Nearby are The National, which dates to 1911, and Shinnecock Hills, founded in 1891, the celebrity courses that every golfer knows and dreams of playing.
