George N. Riordan Dies At 78

George N. Riordan

George Nickerson Riordan, a former summer resident of Quogue, died at his home in California surrounded by family on Friday, May 27, after a long illness. He was 78.

Mr. Riordan was born in Patchogue and raised in Brooklyn, where he graduated from Erasmus Hall. In 1955, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. From 1955 to 1957, he served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He then earned a master’s of business administration from Harvard Business School in 1960. He started his investment banking career at Lehman Brothers in New York. After joining Blythe, Eastman, Paine, Webber, he moved to Los Angeles, where he became managing director of corporate finance in 1980. Later, he became managing director of corporate finance at Prudential-Bache in Los Angeles. He ended his career as chairman of the board of MSC Software Corporation.

Mr. Riordan and his family spent summers in Quogue from the early 1960s until 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Wiggins Riordan; his children, Susan Milligan Riordan and Peter George Riordan; his brother, Arthur Whelden Riordan; and four grandchildren, Alexander Lisowy, Megan Riordan, John Lisowy, and William Riordan.

A memorial service will be held at the Quogue Presbyterian Chapel on Saturday, July 16, at 3 p.m.
