George W. Fennell of Quogue died on Wednesday, May 20. He was 95.

Born in Manhattan on November 19, 1913, he attended Horace Mann School, Lawrenceville School and Duke University. He played polo while in prep school and was known as an excellent equestrian.

He inherited a furniture business founded by his grandfather and was proprietor of George Fennell and Co. in The Bronx and Mt. Vernon. He eventually sold the two stores and moved the business to Hartsdale.

A past president of the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce, he was an associate trustee of Chemical Bank for 25 years.

Upon retiring from Chemical Bank, he became a trustee of Eastchester Savings Bank until it was taken over by North Fork Bank.

During World War II, Mr. Fennell served in the Coast Guard and was stationed at City Island, New York.

Boating was a lifelong hobby, and he was a member and former commodore of the Shinnecock Yacht Club in Quogue.

While residing in Purchase, New York, he was a fire commissioner. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Quogue Fire Department for 50 years.

Mr. Fennell is survived by his wife, Vicky; three sons, George III and his wife Nancy, Larry and his wife Maria Luisa, and John; two daughters, Gene and her husband Bill, and Christine and her husband Ralph; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Interment was on May 23 at the Quogue Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Quogue Fire Department, 117 Jessup Avenue, Quogue, NY 11959 would be appreciated by the family.
