Gerald E. McCarthy
Gerald E. McCarthy of Sag Harbor died on March 16 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson. He was 76.
Born in New York City on October 11, 1936, he was the son of J. Russell McCarthy and Anne Ayres McCarthy, and attended St. Francis Prep School and St. John’s University. He was a retired New York Police Department detective and an assistant commissioner of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice. His professional and fraternal memberships included the Police Anchor Club, the National Law Enforcement Association, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the NYPD Holy Name Society.
Mr. McCarthy is survived by his wife, Margaret; two step-daughters, Maureen Rossi of Maryland and Elizabeth Kirwan of Sag Harbor; five grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Patricia and Sheila.
Visitation was at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor on March 20. A funeral was held at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary in Bridgehampton on March 21; interment followed at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in Sag Harbor.
